8 million people

It was a pretty good day today thinking about what it will be like to actually go and do what God is leading us to. We heard from a couple of people last night that will be helping us while we get ready and prepare to go to our Unreached and Unengaged people groups in the Xinjiang region of China. They told us there was 23 Mongol people groups in China and around 8 million people. WOW the numbers are so huge every time i hear them I think how in the world will we ever tell them. There are 2 teams and the team in China is just 2 families but will adding 2 more in this year. 4 families to reach 8 million people! What does that mean to us? Are we going to sit here and do nothing, we can not!!!! God commanded, yes it was a command not a suggestion, that we go and tell everybody we come in contact with every day. Matthew 28:19-20 tells us to go to all areas at the same time not or, but and, read it. Thanks for taking the time to read our blog but please pray for us even more than you read this we desire that more than anything.

Hey everyone hope all is well.  My heart is heavy and has been for several days.
We have been researching the Oriat people and really feel God is leading us to this Mongolian unreached and unengaged people group.  There are close to 200,000 of these people dying and going to hell and here we sit in our comfortable air conditioned houses eating good meals every day ignoring these people that need to meet our savior.
Here is what i see as the problem with our thoughts and behaviors:
1. Do we care that these people do not know Jesus?
2. We are too comfortable in the fact that our families are saved so we don't care that the Oriat people don't know our savior.
3. When we pray for this lost people group and the alter was not full of people praying for them, is God happy with us?
4. We are consumed with accumulating more cars, houses, buildings, power, that we don't care enough about lost people.

These are 4 things that Iwill hold us back if we don't overcome them and turn everything over to God and forget about how comfortable we are and start searching for God's direction.  I am getting tired of the lack of caring for a lost and dying world WE NEED TO ACT NOW WE CANNOT WAIT.  God gave the command where are the followers?  God will not allow us to sit comfortable by while the world around us does not know Him.  God will change us one way or the other.  I can tell you all about it I am reminded everyday when I look at my hand and am reminded that I was not following Him for years.  Don't let God get your attention the hard way pay attention now and let's go tell the world about our Lord and Savior!

The Oirat Mongols of China

So the last blog I named it discouraged,  funny how when i get discouraged God shows up and my discouragement disappears.  That has happened once more.  I heard from several different people today from the IMB and I think we have found our people group.
**** I need to insert a disclaimer here, this is the group that Kay, Abby and myself will be praying for and studying and learning their language, I am not saying that this is the unreached people group for church.  Church has not picked an unreached people group at this time. ****
Now to tell you what is going on:
When we looked at the unreached & unengaged people groups in the country of Mongolia all them have changed from red to green.  That means that as of today the country of Mongolia has moved up above 5%. While God is still leading us to the Mongol people it is not necessarily in the country of Mongolia. When i read the e-mails from  Karl Pearson and thinking about the Torgut of China, the group they were witnessing to in 2006 - 2008, I found out that no one is activly working with the group today.  The Torgut are classified as 100% Tibeatan Buddhist.  The evangelism effort is 0.00% Christianity is 0.00%.  The number of Torgut in China is 253,215.  The population worldwide is 424,251.  Over 400,000 people that do not know Jesus as their savior.  What are we going to do? It is our responsibility to tell them.
I got in touch with the IMB East Asia Affinity group and they are going to set us up for training stateside and in country.  We are going to take the next step and EMBRACE the Torgut.  We are going to do whatever is necessary to tell them about Jesus.
Continue to pray for us as we follow God's will and start the next steps in our journey.

Discouraged

I know it's been a long time since i have posted anything but life has been so busy thank goodness it has slowed down a bit.  School is done, not just the semester but really done I will receive my B.A. diploma May 5th.  It has been a long couple of years on all three of us but time has flown by.  I do have the opportunity to work on my masters but not too sure I will because of the time it will take away from home and church and missions.  I have been a little discouraged with the lack of action and the fact that nothing seems to be happening.  The people who seemed so excited months ago don't appear to have the same desire we do. We still have an overwhelming desire to go and serve the Mongolian people.  We have found out the largest population of Mongolian people in the US are in Denver, Colorado.  There are around 3600 Mongols there.  We have also been introduced to a missionary family that lives in England reaching the Mongol people there.  It is hard to wait but we know that if we get ahead of God things will not work like they are suppose to.  SO WE WAIT.
We really hate that no one joined us for secret church Friday evening  it was so good as usual, it's hard to believe that 7 hours passes so quickly when David Platt is teaching.  I hope the next one will be at our church and a large group will join in and enjoy it as much as we do.
Please continue to pray for us as we wait on the Lord to open doors and lead us where we need to go and when.  We are praying for God's direction for us, we are not sure what's going to happen in the future but we do know we will do whatever He tells us to do.

Glory To God

I was thinking today about what Bro. David Platt and Bro. Brad Bessant said last week and and I just can't get this out of my mind.  They both said at different times that everything we do should be done to glorify God.
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1st Cor. 10:31
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.  Col. 3:17

So thinking about these two verses what are we suppose to do?   I really do not think that we are supposed to so self-centered that we think we are good enough to glorify God on our own.  We glorify God through Jesus Christ and being obedient to Him.  Do you think God is glorified if we are not thinking of godly things first?  I don't think so.  I used to think that I was doing what God wanted but God opened my eyes when i decided that it was no longer about me and my two it was about God and everything He desired.  God gave us all a job to do as Christians, and that is not to gain more and more earthly stuff, (I don't think it is wrong to have stuff but it wrong to place our stuff and desire for more stuff ahead of God).  What is our job? Our job is tell everyone we come in contact with about Jesus.  Is that radical, yes! Is it what God desires, Yes!  When we tell people about Jesus we glorify God.   Do you really think God saved us from hell and forgave our sins in order for us to sit in our pews and act like we are serving God when the lost around us are dying and going to hell.  The answer is NO ! Just because you go to church when the door is open does not necessarily mean your serving and glorifying Him.  God desires that we do what He wants and He wants the whole world to be saved.  Through our obedience to Him we ultimately glorify Him.
I was thinking about today and wondered if everything I have done today has really glorified God.  The answer is no not really, sin keeps us from glorifying God. The thing about God is that He forgives and we have a clean slate to try again.  Did everything you do today glorify God?  If not, and it did not as forgiveness and try again.  I am.
I know this does not seem like a missions blog about where you send me but it really is how can i tell God send me if I am not doing everything to glorify Him.  So tomorrow try your best to do everything to glorify our God, our Saviour.

Mission Conference/Update

I know it's been a little while since i wrote anything so here's the catch up info.  We spent 3 days at First Baptist Church in Trussville, Alabama at the IMB Missions Forum 2012 East.  It was so much fun to hear all the speakers and attend the breakout sessions we learned so much.  We got to hear Bro. Brad Bessent and what his church is currently doing and how they stay focused on serving God.  He told me that we need to do everything we do for the glory of God.  The things we say the things we do those we witness to and those we tell about it: everything has to be for the glory of God. This made perfect sense to us and we are doing that.  There was around 250 people there  this week from the IMB and missionaries of all kinds from volunteers to retired missionaries and people just getting home from places.  We met the southeast asian affinity group strategist he attends First Baptist Church Concord in Knoxville and they have a couple that has been to Mongolia and he is going to introduce us to them soon, we are excited to meet and talk to them about what they saw and what they did.  We are still waiting to hear from the missionaries that are currently in the field  please pray for R. and L. as they serve the Lord in another country we can't wait to hear from them. We are still planning a trip this year to Mongolia not to sure if it will be both of us or just me please pray for God's direction and guidance concerning this. We also got to hear Bro. David Platt speak and it was so good we really enjoy listening to him speak if you have never heard him you can find lots of sermons on several different topics here http://www.disciplemakingintl.org/media/ theres lots of things here that are very good.  The next secret church is April 6 let me know if you want to attend we will be going somewhere to a simulcast event.
Thank you for praying for my dad during his colon cancer scare the doctor has given him a clean bill of health they were able to remove the spot of cancer and he is good as new now.  The next thing is the knee replacement scheduled for March 18 so keep him in your prayers.  We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers as we continue to follow God as he leads us to the people of Mongolia we desire your prayers for us everyday.

Challenge

I was listening to Brad Bessent who is a pastor at a church in South Carolina this week.  He was preaching on praying and fasting from a sermon series from last July 2011.  I have never fasted before and when he challenged his church to a 40 day prayer and fasting time I was getting interested in it.  The challenge was to do the following things for the next 40 days:
1. Pray for 60 seconds every hour.  (he suggested setting an alarm on the hour)
2. Pray for 60 minutes straight at least once a week. (not 60 minutes during the week but at one time)
3. Do something nice for someone else for at least 60 seconds an hour.
4. Fast from something on a consistent basis for the entire time period.  He gave a few examples like one day a week he drank nothing but water the entire day or add fruit and nuts,  he said some gave up all sweet/sugar items, basically it should be something you think you can't live without, not like brussell sprouts or something.
5. Witness to at least one lost person during the period.
I think this would be hard to do but I am going to try it for the month of February.  I want to challenge anyone who reads this to join in and see what happens when we follow and concentrate on God for an entire month.
I have been looking at the weather in Mongolia and man is it cold there.  There is going to be a heat wave Thursday it's going to be -9 (yes that's minus 9) that's the warmest day in 2 weeks.  the lows are   -40's (yes that's another minus) not sure what you would wear in that weather let alone sleep in a Ger.  Google Mongolian Ger and you can see one, it's a fancy tent.  I can hardly wait to go and tell the Mongolians about Jesus.  Continue to pray for the people and us as we continue to work towards going in August.  I will have enough vacation saved up by August to take 2 weeks off and they said it was not a problem, so good news there.  Things just keep lining up and working out so far to go.

Random Thoughts...

It was difficult to talk at church in the second service I felt like i was so random and had trouble getting everything right.  God is so good to us everyday.  I am still praying that God will open doors for a trip this year.  In the meantime several things are going on...Friday January 27, 2012 Grace and Mercy ministries will be serving lunch in Athens at 11:30, our Sunday School class helps Women at the Well with this lunch.  March 31 we will be going to Western Heights Baptist Center to help with their Easter celebration.  We are still looking for more opportunities to witness to people and will continue searching out God's will.
The temperature in Mongolia right now is negative 36 degrees, like 36 degrees below zero.  Can you imagine living in a Ger and being that cold.  Think about this tomorrow when you are outside.  You can google a "Mongolian Ger" and see a picture of what they live in.  I don't remember Alaska being that cold when I lived there.
Dad came home from the hospital today and is doing very well he even walked up and down the road this afternoon.  Praise the Lord he is doing so good.
Well enough of the rambling for now.  The next blog will be all about Mongolia keep watching for it.

Wondering.....

Today was a very busy day at work.  I was debating on writing tonight or not because i was tired and wanted to veg out but writing won out, american idol is not that interesting so far even though I really do like Steven Tyler he is so funny, I'm a big Aerosmith fan.   Oh well on to the important stuff.....
I find myself wondering what it is going to be like to step off the plane in Mongolia.  I wonder what it's going to smell like.  I wonder what the people I will meet and witness to are going to say.  I wonder what their names are.  I wonder how hard it is going to be to learn to speak Mongolian.  I am wondering what things God has in store for us.  I was reading a newsletter today from Bro. Gary Frey in San Antonio and he said we need revival not just in church but in my life, my family, my church and in everything.  I was thinking about that and I think that is what is happening in our family.
I am speaking at church Sunday morning and am a little worried, speaking in front of people is not a problem I just can't tell all that God is doing without crying.  I want everyone to see the desire God has placed in me for the people of Mongolia, not just remember that I cried for a few minutes.
Please pray for us everyday as we continue to seek God and follow Him also pray for the people of Mongolia.

Where you send me......

Well I can say today that God has showed me where I am suppose to go and tell people about him.  I know anyone who is reading this will not believe it when I say this because I can hardly believe it myself.  I told a friend today and he was just as excited as I am.  God is leading us to the people of Mongolia.  There are approximately 3 million lost people in this country.  I know some will say there are lost people right here or there are lost people closer to here than Mongolia.  Both statements are true and I want to ask a question: Are you telling them?  Acts 1:8 tells us as Christians that we are supposed to be witnesses everywhere we go and at all times.  Why is it so difficult to tell people we see everyday about Jesus?  I think it is because we do not live as Christians every day.
I met Jack Roach yesterday and he is such passionate Christian and has such a desire for lost people.  I was so excited after hearing  him talk (and I mean hearing, he can talk a lot)  about the people of Mongolia and I could see his love and passion to win them to Christ.  I don't think I have ever met anyone from Mongolia in my life and to be honest I think Jack was the first person I have ever met that has been there.  This is the part I can't understand, outside of God, why would God put the people of Mongolia on my heart?  I cannot answer that question only God knows why.  The more I read and study about them I love the people of Mongolia and I want them to know my Savior Jesus Christ.  Jack has a ministry called M.O.R.E. ministries please go to his website and read about it.  www.moreministries.net.  I am praying for God's direction and would like to ask everyone to pray for us daily and constantly for God's direction.  The next trip Jack's ministry has scheduled is August 4 - 18.  We are praying and asking God if it is time for my first trip, and if it is God will certainly have to provide.
I was so proud of Kay this morning giving her testimony during the 11 o'clock game at Upward she did such a wonderful job couldn't tell she wasn't a natural at it.  God has blessed me with a precious helpmate I couldn't do everything without her beside me. Pastor Wayne has asked me to share with the church what God is doing with us next Sunday.  I hope that my church family can catch the desire and passion I have for the people of Mongolia and the rest of the lost around the world.
Keep my dad in your prayers he is scheduled for surgery Friday the 20th for his colon cancer, please pray that the Dr's get it all and he will be cancer free.  The bad thing is that he is having a lot of pain in his knee and he has trouble walking sometimes. Due to the importance of having the colon cancer removed, he has to wait a couple of months before he can have his knee replacement surgery.
Thanks for reading about our journey.

Challenges of life

We have been looking at the map of unreached people groups and we think we have narrowed our search to three countries we (Kay and I) are going to pray about and see if we get a direction from God.  Here is the list in no specific order Mongolia, Nepal and Finland all three are UPG's.  It's scary to think that God is actually telling us that we need to go witness to the people in one of these countries.  I figured out why these are UPG's plane fair for two is $5,000 and that just gets us to the airport. The key here is if it is something God is sending us on then the finances will be provided, we are waiting on God's directions. I have learned from Brother Gary Frey that God will provide in his time not mine  I would love to be able to go tomorrow but that will come in time.
Kay's friend is serving in western heights community in Knoxville we are going to see what kind of help they need and go serve there some.  We are also going to look into doing some servant evangelism with the Appalachian regional ministry in the near future.  I'll keep everyone posted with the times and results.
On a personal note, we desire your prayers for my dad and our family the next few weeks.  He had a colonoscopy and they found a spot of cancer.  He is going to see a surgeon January 17th.  Please pray that they can remove all of it and be cancer free after the surgery.  My dad has been the steady rock of our family and we love him and not really ready to face anything like this.  Good news if there is any, the doctor told them it was caught very early and should be able to be treated.
Our family has set three goals for this year and we are doing good even though it's only Jan. 5th.  1. Read the bible through 2. Do as many mission things as possible even small things 3. Pay as much debt off as possible this even means not getting pizza for dinner even when we want it bad.
Please pray for us as we continue in our missions journey and especially for our family the next few weeks.

New Year

Happy new year it's 2012 and time for a new start.  We can have the best year we want by giving God three simple things.  1. Love God with all our heart  2. Walk in all Gods ways  3. Hold fast to God.
What would our year be like if we actually lived like this for 365 days?  We have been praying and searching out God's will for our family, we are certain that God is leading us into missions/evangelism.  We are taking this new year to prepare ourselves both spiritually, physically, and financially in order to be ready to go where God sends us.
